I know that most of the things in your house are probably made in China, and most of those made in china toys don’t last an hour in the hands of little children how much more adults. Back in the day it used to be made in Taiwan and some of them fell apart before they got to their destinations. I wonder why we still import tooth picks from China yet we have forests in our backyards….how ridiculous!
Today my focus is on teachers. I want to give a shout out to all the teachers all over the world from kindergarten to university….whatever they call you, sub, teacher, lecturer, professor, tutor, whatever. Teachers are made in heaven not China or Taiwan. Even Chinese teachers are made in heaven. I challenge anybody who reads this post to reach out to at least two teachers that have impacted your life one way or the other over the course of your educational journey, and show them some love. May 5th was teachers appreciation day but we will make it teachers appreciation week.
It is annoying and rightly so, that in Africa teachers are on strike every single time. Anytime I turn around teachers are on strike…or planning one or just called one off. Why is government refusing to meet their needs and invest in the education sector? How do we call the youth leaders of tomorrow without proper preparation for the tomorrow we want them to lead? And we complain that the average graduate cannot defend the certificate or that the education system is substandard? Why wouldn’t education system be substandard when you pay one clueless politician more money in a year than you pay a thousand teachers put together? Why wouldn’t the society be in such a shape when nobody aspires to be a teacher anymore?
Maybe we can move a motion to pay teachers more than politicians and more than anybody else, and let us see how our education system will not come back to life. Let the governors and the presidents take home no more than the class room teachers take home a year and let us see how our society will not be heaven on earth. Ask the child next to you right now what he would be when he grows up and see if any of them will tell you ‘teacher’…I know this because I have tried it over and again and each time I hear what I don’t want to hear. Society has neglected teachers so much yet expect them to do the magic with empty hands and empty stomachs.
Maybe if we paid teachers more than we pay politicians, better policies will be formulated and the community will be better informed to not let folks that never graduated with any certificate come close to the corridors of power, how about that? How about we raise the bar for office holder qualifications and not this nonsensical high school graduation requirement for president of a country…how many of us would let a high school graduate be manager for a business we own in 2020?
If we paid teachers a little more maybe they would not be abused and insulted by parents anyhow and anytime without any repercussions from the school administration? If we paid teachers more maybe the children/students will respect them more and not look down on them after all the teacher does not live in a big mansion as beautiful as his dad’s….
Time and space will not allow me go on here but today, I charge you to think about how better our society could be if we paid a little more attention to teachers all over the world. I tell you, teachers are made in heaven whether you like them or not. Although not every teacher is a good teacher but most of them are. Maybe the bad ones among them are not bad per se, they probably need help with something or need someone to show them some love. How many times have you asked a teacher ‘how can I make your job easier?’. Is there anything I can do to help you? How are your children? How is your wife? How is your mom? How is your family?
Some of them are fighting wars you never know anything about, behind with their bills, struggling with emotional issues and worried about children’s welfare or medical concerns. If you are in government, pay attention to the teachers. Society will benefit when teachers are taken more seriously than everyone else including politicians. And if you have a mom who is also a teacher you owe her double celebration this weekend….it is Mother’s Day and Teachers Appreciation Week combined.
